Massage involves manually working the superficial and deeper soft tissues of the body, to ease day-to-day stresses and muscular tension, reduce pain, facilitate healing and promote relaxation and well-being. It helps to increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the treated areas and can also be used in support of other therapies to assist in the rehabilitation of muscular injuries.

Massage is used for a variety of reasons. Some people have a soft tissue massage to simply relax and unwind, while others may have regular massage to help them manage or cope with a specific physical, mental or emotional problem. People involved in sport may have a deep tissue or sports massage, before or after training and competing, in order to stay in optimum condition or treat a recent injury site and aid recovery.

Types of massage commonly used at Protec include: soft tissue massage, sports massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and Chinese medical massage (Tui-Na).
